North Stonington school board elects new chairman

North Stonington — The newly elected members of the Board of Education were sworn in and new leadership positions filled Tuesday.

Dave McCord, the vice chairman, was elected chairman by his fellow board members. McCord has served on the Board of Education on and off for the past decade. Former Chairman Bob Testa recently was elected to a Board of Selectmen position.

Robert Carlson was elected vice chairman, and Walt Mathwich was elected secretary.

The newcomers were Christine Wagner, a Republican who serves on the Economic Development Commission, and Democrat Julia Buzzee.

Besides Testa, the only other board member not to return was Crystal Dame, who did not receive a Democratic endorsement. She ran and lost as a petitioning candidate.
