East Lyme — Five appropriations passed by majority vote at a special town meeting Wednesday.

Residents approved allocating a $79,684 reimbursement from the Federal Emergency Management Agency toward the town’s vehicle acquisition and maintenance program. The reimbursement was for expenses the town incurred during Superstorm Sandy and last winter’s blizzard.

They also approved using $70,000 from the recent sale of two autoloaders to the city of New London to offset future purchases in the town’s vehicle acquisition program.

Residents also agreed to earmark $10,000 in the capital nonrecurring fund to paint and maintain handed-down town vehicles to extend their use. This vote, tallied by a show of hands because it was too close to call by voice vote, was 12 residents in support and 10 in opposition.

Residents also gave the town the go-ahead to transfer $70,000 currently designated to the acquisition of public works trucks in the capital non-recurring fund to an account for public works trucks in the town’s general fund.

They also signed off on $1,260 to partially fund a museum curator for the Smith Harris House and $90 for associated benefits.
