Five people displaced by Norwich fire

Norwich — Two adults and three children were displaced after a fire damaged their home at 502 East Main St. late this afternoon.

Firefighters were called to the three-story home at 5:42 p.m. and encountered flames when they arrived, according to Chief Kenneth Scandariato.

“There was fire from the basement to first floor, fire in the walls of the second floor and it was on its way to the attic upon our arrival,” he said.

The firefighters stopped the blaze from spreading throughout the wood-framed building and had it under control less than an hour after the initial call, Scandariato said.

“The guys made a nice stop at this fire,” he said.

He said the American Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents and the cause of the fire is under investigation. No firefighters or residents were injured.
