State police shot a Waterford man on parole Saturday night after they say he repeatedly rammed their cruisers with his car and then drove towards a trooper who was on foot.

Keith A. Corey, 44, of 25 Clifton St. was treated at The William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich for a non-life-threatening wound. A passenger in his car was not injured or charged. The trooper was treated and released for a minor injury at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital.

According to state police, a trooper observed a vehicle being driven erratically just past 8:10 p.m. on Route 12 in Plainfield and tried to stop it.

Corey refused to stop and fled from the trooper, driving south along Interstate 395. Near Exit 83 in Norwich, other troopers tried to stop him. When they did, he began to ram their cruisers. The troopers surrounded the car and ordered him to get out.

He continued to drive forward and back ramming their cruisers in an attempt to get away.

When he began to drive towards the trooper, they ordered him to stop. When he did not, state police said the trooper fired at the car as it approached him.

The State Police Central District Major Crime Squad responded to the scene to investigate the use of force.

A preliminary investigation revealed that Corey was on parole and wearing an ankle bracelet. He was turned over to the state Department of Corrections.

State Police and the State Attorney's Office are continuing their investigation. The charges against Corey were not available this morning.
