Lyme library to celebrate 100th anniversary Monday

Lyme — While the Lyme Public Library is normally closed on Mondays, this Monday the institution will open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to celebrate to celebrate its 100th anniversary.

The town had approved establishing a public library in 1913, and the library officially opened its doors to the public on Feb. 3, 1914.

The library was first housed in the basement of the Lyme Congregational Church in Hamburg Cove. In 1971, the library opened in its current location at 482 Hamburg Road. A new library building, under construction next to the existing site, is expected to open this fall.

All regular library services will be available on Monday, as well as special displays and refreshments. More information is available by calling (860) 434-2272 or visiting www.lymepl.org.
