Montville school board to vote on budget at next meeting

Montville — The Board of Education declined to take action Tuesday on the superintendent’s proposed $37 million budget, saving in-depth discussion for its regular meeting next week.

Acting Superintendent Brian Levesque presented a school budget with a 1.85 percent increase to the board at the end of January. The budget includes additional funding for technology and negotiated increases to teacher salaries and benefits, but compensates for some of those costs by removing one staff position from the district’s central office.

The central office position is not currently filled and the district is working fine without it, said Levesque.

Action on the budget was delayed because three board members were unable to make Tuesday’s meeting and one did not have time to review the budget proposal, said Board of Education Chairman David Rowley.

The board will meet at 6 p.m. on Feb. 11 in the Montville High School library.
