Downtown Mystic could add 50 parking spaces

Mystic — Downtown Mystic would gain 50 additional parking spaces due to the second phase of the streetscape project, the redevelopment of the Emporium and the recent approval of a plan by the Mystic Arts Center to reconfigure and expand its parking lot.

The Planning Commission on Monday unanimously approved a site plan modification and coastal site plan that would allow the arts center to add 35 parking spaces, the Office of Planning and Development Services said in a news release.

The plan would also provide additional public access to Long Island Sound.

Fedus Engineering LLC, worked with planning and development staff in the areas of historic preservation, planning and economic development to integrate the parking lot project with the streetscape work, the news release said.

The parking lot reconstruction would be done in small phases this spring, so the lot would remain open throughout.
