Update: The following press release was issued shortly after noon today:

From:  Michael A Krause, Chairman Board of Education and Hamlet M. Hernandez, Superintendent of Schools, Branford Public Schools.

In connection with this press release, as reported earlier by The Sound, is the following story:

At the March 19 Board of Education (BOE) meeting, The Sound asked whether a BOE statement would be forthcoming; with regard to last week's nationally-backed Branford High School (BHS) Students for Life dust-up with the administration and district (read the story at http://bit.ly/PTIsFg )While the district was not responding publicly to the issue last week, information was flowing from Students for Life of America and Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), two national groups assisting BHS Students for Life club founder Samantha Bailey-Loomis, a senior, with the club's request to allow equal time to share pro-life information during lunch periods. ADF sent the district a letter which promised to proceed with litigation if a written response to the club's request was not met, in writing, by March 12, 2014 (clilck on the letter at right). The Sound a statement will be forthcoming.

Last night, BOE chair Mike Kraus told

"We've had some very constructive dialogue with all parties and a press release is going to be released very soon," Kraus told The Sound.
