Stonington Borough proposes stipends for Fire Dept.

Stonington — With the consolidation of the four companies of the Stonington Borough Fire Department into one entity, there is now a proposal to include stipends for the captain’s and two lieutenants positions in the proposed 2014-15 borough budget.

The captain would be paid $1,800 a year and the lieutenants $1,200 each. Fire Chief Jeff Hoadley said the stipends are being sought because the three positions have many more responsibilities than they did before the consolidation. The new captain is Theresa Hersh, the 1st Lieutenant is Everett Ponte and the 2nd Lieutanant Michael Ruffin.
