The New London County Multidisciplinary Team is hosting a “Safe Baby Event” at Target in Waterford from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday.

During this past year, the team reports seeing an unprecedented increase in infant fatalities in the region, many due to incorrect positioning and unsafe sleeping conditions.

As part of National Child Abuse Awareness Month, team members including a nurse, social workers and law enforcement officers will be on hand to distribute materials and answer questions from moms and dads about keeping babies safe. They also will hand out “onesies” to new parents reminding them “This Side Up.”
