Scranton Library Receives Grant from Essex Savings Bank

The Scranton Memorial Library has received a $356 grant as part of the Essex Savings Bank's Community Investment Program. This award will be used to purchase new materials for the Library's Family Place Program.

The Library's Family Place program is designed to promote the importance of parents as first teachers, strategies for healthy child development, and early literacy. This weekly program includes stories, music, and free play. Many of the developmental toys used in the program had been well-loved and well-worn, and this generous donation will ensure children will have access to new and safe toys and materials when they visit the library.

The Essex Savings Bank annually commits 10 percent of its after-tax net income to qualifying organizations within the immediate market area, which includes Madison. The Community Investment Program provides financial support to more than 200 non-profit organizations. Essex Savings Bank customers determine 30 percent of the fund allocations each year by voting directly for three of their favorite causes, charities or organizations who have submitted applications to participate.
