Connecticut Charity Appeals For Donations After Fire

A Connecticut charity is appealing for donations of clothing, furniture and housewares after a fire at its main warehouse in West Haven damaged most of its inventory.

The Helping Hands Thrift Store and Furniture Bank runs thrift stores in North Haven and Orange and a furniture bank in North Haven. Most of the damage from the fire on early Sunday morning was from smoke and water.

Helping Hands partner Steve Greenberg says bedding, furniture and housewares are in high demand and many people were counting on the charity delivering furniture to them this week.

West Haven officials say the fire appears to be suspicious. Officials say it may have started in an outside trash bin, and they're investigating whether it's related to other recent trash bin fires in the area.
