Montville Democrats to nominate new school board member after Smith resigns
The Montville Democratic Committee will meet Jan. 7 to nominate a replacement for Valerie P. Smith, the Democratic Board of Education member who resigned at the board's December meeting.
The committee will meet at 6 p.m. in room 202 of Montville Town Hall to consider three candidates.
Oakdale Fire Company Chief Gary Murphy, former school board member Sandra Berardy and New London Fire Department Lt. Rocco Basilica have all volunteered for the spot, according to Montville Democratic Town Committe Chairman Joseph Jaskiewicz.
At 7 p.m. in the same room, Democratic Town Committee members will also gather to caucus and endorse candidates for new members of the committe.
