    Stonington to begin revaluation

Stonington — The town will begin a revaluation within the next few weeks, with data collectors visiting all properties in town to record exterior measurements and conduct interior inspections.

The reassessment project will establish market value as of Oct. 1, 2017, and will be reflected in the tax bills issued in July 2018.

Vision Government Solutions Inc. has been hired to complete the state-mandated revaluation.

All data collectors will carry a letter of identification from the Assessor’s Office and a photo ID badge, and their cars will be registered with the police department.

Property owners also can contact the Department of Assessment at (860) 535-5098 for further confirmation.

The town is asking all property owners and tenants to cooperate with data collectors to ensure that accurate information is used in the revaluation process.

Notices containing the new valuations will be mailed to property owners in the fall of 2017.

Residents then will have the opportunity to meet with Vision staff to review their proposed assessments.

Property values will be finalized and appear on the 2017 grand list.

Property owners unhappy with the values can appeal to the Board of Assessment Appeals and Superior Court.
