    Talk of the sea

Jimmy Sistaire, Ollie Beebe and an unidentified man, on the AUNT EDIE in Noank sometime around 1900-1910.

John Wilbur will present “Noank’s Ambassadors: Sailing Fishermen, 1900-1910,” at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21 at the Latham/Chester Store.

Wilbur, who comes from a long line of Noank-born Wilburs, even though he was born in New London, will share tales of maritime mayhem of the fisherman of Noank at the turn of the 20th century. The talk is hosted by the Noank Historical Society. Wilbur, educated at the Merchant Marine Academy, has been employed aboard various ships and boats throughout his career. He now works for Cross Sound Ferry. When not at sea, sound, or on the river, he is either walking dogs, taking photographs or researching the history of Noank.
