Local museums offer free admission to active service military families
Each summer since 2010, Blue Star Museums have offered free admission to the nation's active-duty military personnel and their families, including National Guard and Reserve, from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
Blue Star Families are those who have a family member in active service in the U.S. Armed Forces. Blue Star Museums is a collaboration among the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense and museums across America.
Participating Locations in southeastern Connecticut include: The Avery Memorial Association in Groton; The Submarine Force Library & Museum in Groton, where admission and parking is always free; the Denison Homestead Museum and the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center in Mystic; the New London Maritime Society's Custom House Maritime Museum, and the Hempsted Houses and Lyman Allyn Art Museum in New London.
