Albert Johnson, a lifelong resident of Quaker Hill, was posthumously recognized for his naval service in World War II at a ceremony at New London City Hall on Aug. 22.

Johnson served from May 1944 to June 1946 as a boatswain’s mate second-class on the USS Marvin McIntyre. His wife Mary Lou was talking with Waterford resident and family friend Mike Discordia recently about her late husband’s service, and when Discordia found out that she didn’t have any of his medals, he did the research to figure out which medals he would have received.

U.S. Rep. Joe Courtney presented Johnson’s medals at the Aug. 22 ceremony, and New London Mayor Michael Passero also presented a proclamation thanking Johnson for his service.
