New London — Cara Scognamiglio of Waterford, dressed in old-fashioned clothing, and Lorraine Ballsieper of Deep River, both part-time guides at the Hempsted Houses, gave a demonstration of open-hearth cooking techniques used during the colonial era in the Nathaniel Hempsted House on Saturday.
The two were preparing a typical Thanksgiving dinner for that time period.
