Millstone siren malfunctions in Lyme, going off despite no emergency

Lyme — A siren used to alert residents here of a problem with the Millstone Power Station malfunctioned Saturday night, accidentally going off despite there being no emergency at the nuclear plant.

The siren went off for about an hour and 15 minutes late Saturday evening before power was removed and the siren was turned off, said Millstone spokesman Ken Holt, adding that the specific faulty siren remains offline currently.

Many residents reported on Facebook hearing the siren around 9:20 p.m.

Holt said that all other sirens remain operational, and in the meantime Millstone has alternate means to alert the public in the area with the malfunctioning siren.
