    The summer's harvest abounds

Tracee Reiser of New London grew a variety of dahlias of all sizes and colors, as well as multicolored tomatoes.

Every year, we look forward to seeing what colorful crops our readers grow, with flowers and vegetables of all shapes and sizes. Enjoy!

Joe Cascio of Stonington grew a selection of peppers, including hot peppers, Italian long hot peppers, habañero peppers and hot cherry peppers.
This summer, Joe worked Saturdays at The Arc New London County’s Farm Stand on Route 117 in Ledyard, and he loves to show off the great produce and beautiful gladiolas he grew.
Kathy, Jeff, Chick and Lori Barberi of Waterford display part of their bountiful harvest, which includes onions, garlic, squash, more garlic and cucumbers.
Jerry Brzuszek of Niantic grew an “Italian gramma’s dream” of a garden, including more than nine feet of tomatoes, peppers and parsley.
Bruce Silvestri of Waterford grew a towering sunflower in his raised bed garden.
Daneen Roth of New London planted a garden full of tomatoes, including SuperSweet 100s, Sungolds, Early Girls, and Better Boys.
Chris Borowiec of Groton Long Point submitted this photo, right, of the 13-foot-tall sunflowers that his daughter Lily, pictured here with her puppy Lennie, planted this year.
Nancy Pennington of Niantic found this five-inch tomato hiding in her small garden alongside other more reasonably sized tomatoes, cucumbers and squash.
Patty Monseglio of Stonington experimented with the Hugelkultur method in her raised bed garden this year, producing half a bushel of produce as well as herbs and lettuce.
Katy and Josh Perry of Groton shared a photo of last year’s crop, grown in one of Josh’s custom made greenhouses.
After a week away, Don and Karen Slawski of North Stonington came home to this bounty of San Marzano and slicing tomatoes in their garden.
