Kindness in Real Life: Fun House helper saves the day at Ledyard Fair

Tai-Leyce Montey poses with Karter Hinkson at the Ledyard Fair. Photo submitted

While we were at the the Ledyard Fair, we bought my son Karter a wrist band to ride the rides. Well, when he realized that Karter’s dad Windell Hinkson and I weren’t able to go on each ride with him, he was pretty upset.

So, as we stood in front of the “Fun House” for 15 minutes trying to coax him to go through it on his own, this teenage girl in the picture was stepping up with her friends when she randomly turned to Karter, got down to his level, put her hand out and said, “I will take you, you can hold my hand!”

Her friends, who were sweet as well, had already begun the adventure, but she, without hesitation, stayed behind and then proceeded to take Karter through the fun house.

Wow. Thank you. It could seem like this is only a small gesture, but to us it meant the world. What a beautiful young lady. It makes me so proud that in this world of selfishness and hate, love and kindness still shine through in the smallest gestures.

Editor’s Note: Kaitlin Cedio, who lives in Groton, did not know the young woman’s name until she posted this on Facebook. Turns out her name is Tai-Leyce Montey, a teenager attending the Ledyard Fair. “She is going places!!” Cedio said in an email. She noted that after Montey intervened, Karter had no problems going on any ride alone.
