East Lyme Parks and Recreation foreman Jason Alves monitors winterizes the irrigation pipes at Peretz Park at Bridebrook in Niantic Monday by using a compressor to blow the water out of the plumbing.
Alves says the process usually takes all day, and can usually be managed via a computer in his office, but the computer was down today requiring him to visit each of the fields in the park and operate the valves for each irrigation zone manually.
Wear spots on several of the fields have been cleared for re-sodding, which will take place next week.
Alves expects to be back to irrigating using the water from the park's well in May.
