Youth leadership conference on climate change scheduled for March 30 in New London

New London — Reforest the Tropics and the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center are holding a free Youth Leadership Conference on Climate Change at the Regional Multicultural Magnet School, 1 Bulkeley Place, New London, from 8:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 30.

The two organizations are urging local schools to send from two to five delegates in grades four through eight to represent their school at the conference. Attendees will participate in workshops to learn about ways to solve the climate change crisis.

The conference invites local teachers to attend either as participants or facilitators.

Reforest the Tropics works to mitigate climate change through sustainable forestry and carbon sequestration. Established in 1996, the Mystic-based nonprofit manages more than 500 acres of research forests on 13 farms in Costa Rica for more than 100 U.S. emitters. Its partner conference sponsor, the nature center, has been providing nature education in the Mystic area for more than 60 years.

The conference is free, but pre-registration is required. Light morning refreshments and lunch will be provided. This will be a "green" conference, with as close to zero waste as possible.
