Stonington borough spring cleanup slated for May 11

Stonington — The Stonington Village Improvement Association will sponsor its first Spring Boro Clean-Up Day on Saturday, May 11.

Volunteers will meet at 10 a.m. at Stonington Point and then pick up trash that has accumulated over the winter at duBois Beach, the East Lawn, Cannon Square, Wayland’s Wharf, the Town Playground, part of Wadawanuck Square and Mathews Park, all properties owned or supported by the SVIA. A special effort will be made to stop plastics and other harmful garbage from getting into Stonington Harbor and Little Narragansett Bay.

At each location, children can find tokens to trade in for prizes at Mathews Park. Volunteers will receive lunch sponsored by the SVIA and provided by Dog Watch Café and have the opportunity to play bocce ball. The event will occur rain or shine and volunteers of all ages are welcome. No dogs are allowed. No signups are required and volunteers are asked to bring their own gloves and trash bags (paper preferred).
