Groton Public Schools to hold pre-kindergarten and preschool screenings

Groton — The school district is encouraging Groton families interested in preschool opportunities for 3- and 4-year-olds for the 2019-20 school year to schedule a screening appointment for the Pre-Kindergarten Program and Integrated Preschool Peer Role Models.

Screenings will be held Aug. 29 and a limited number of spots are available. Parents or guardians can register for an appointment at www.grotonschools.org.

The district has provided the following information about the programs:

    • Pre-Kindergarten Program: Any child who will be 4 years old on or before Jan. 1, 2020, is encouraged to be screened to determine eligibility. Children scoring within a target range will be selected for the program. The goal of this program is to provide eligible children with an opportunity to acquire appropriate readiness skills needed for a successful kindergarten experience.

    • Integrated Preschool Peer Role Models: Children with strong skills in readiness, language and socialization act as peer role models in the Integrated Special Needs program. Children with eligible screening scores are selected by a lottery process for the program. Participants for this program must be at least 3 years old on or before the screening date.
