Two arrested for burglarizing Stonington home with crowbar

Stonington -- Police charged two people from Westerly with burglarizing a home on Pequot Trail early Saturday evening.

Kailey J. Herbert, 27, of 7 Valley Drive, Westerly, was charged with first-degree burglary and breach of peace while Justin C. Roberts, 35, of 128 High St., Apt. C, Westerly, was charged with criminal liability to commit first-degree burglary, possession of burglary tools, breach of peace and improper use of markers. They were both held on $5,000 bonds over the weekend and are scheduled to be arraigned Monday in New London Superior Court.

According to police, the pair pulled into the driveway of home on Pequot Trail about 6 p.m. at which point Herbert opened an unlocked door and entered the living room. The homeowner, a woman, was coming down the stairs when she spotted Herbert holding a crowbar and asked what she was doing. Police said Herbert apologized, added that she was in the wrong house and ran out. The pair then went to the home next door, where police said Herbert knew the homeowner who said he was expecting her. She and Roberts were taken into custody there.
