    Historic haul-out

Staff at Mystic Seaport Museum watch as the historic fishing schooner L.A. Dunton rises from the Mystic River in the ship lift Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2019, at the H.B. duPont Preservation Shipyard. The Dunton, built in 1921 in Essex, Mass., is one of the last remaining examples of the Gloucester fishing schooner that plied the fishing grounds off New England in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The Dunton will be out of the water for about three weeks for maintenance and survey work in preparation for a major restoration scheduled for 2021. The next project for the shipyard will be restoration of the schooner Sherman Zwicker, which serves as a floating oyster bar in Manhattan. (Sean D. Elliot/The Day)
