    Groton schools to hold events for service members, veterans interested in teaching career

    Groton — Groton Public Schools announced it is partnering with Troops to Teachers and the State Department of Education on three community sessions for service members and military veterans interested in a teaching career.

    The first event, "Explore Teaching – Service Member to Teacher," will be held from 6 to 7:15 p.m. Thursday in the Media Center of Robert E. Fitch Senior High School, 101 Groton Long Point Road. Refreshments will be served. Registration and more information is available at www.grotonschools.org.

    "Background and opportunities will be shared to help transitioning service members and veterans explore and evaluate teaching as a profession," according to an event notice. "Laurie LePine, Groton Public Schools director of human resources, will lead conversations with teacher veterans from Groton, Ledyard, and Stonington about what to expect as a teacher in today’s environment, innovation and technology in education, and leadership and professional growth opportunities."

    Additional sessions, to be held on Jan. 28 and March 25, will focus on the classroom experience.

    Troops to Teachers is open to current and former members of the Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard, Reserve components and National Guard, according to the notice. More information is available at www.proudtoserveagain.com.
