New London officials to discuss upcoming road project

New London — City officials will hold a public informational meeting on Feb. 6 to discuss the upcoming project to reconstruct Jefferson Avenue between Broad Street and Chester Street, and replace the traffic signal at the Jefferson Avenue and Chester Street intersection with a roundabout.

The meeting is at 7 p.m. at New London Science and Technology Magnet High School, 490 Jefferson Ave.

The preliminary design has been completed for the project scope, which will include road narrowing, addition of bikes lanes, complete roadway reconstruction and drainage stabilization. The city said the end result will be a reduced environmental impact, increased pedestrian, bike and vehicle flow and safety, and improved aesthetics.

Community members are encouraged to share any concerns about the project.

The estimated cost of the project is $2,515,600, with the state reimbursing all of it through its Local Transportation Capital Improvement Program.

The meeting facility is Americans with Disabilities Act accessible. Persons needing ADA accommodations, hearing and/or speech accommodations or language assistance may request such services by contacting Brian Sear, public works director for the city, at (860) 447-5250 or bsear@ci.newlondon.ct.us.

Please make requests at least five business days prior to the meeting. The City will make every effort to accommodate reasonable requests for ADA accommodations and/or language assistance.
