Zoom, zoom, zoom! Scouts race homemade cars at Pinewood Derby

Groton — Scouts from Cub Scout Pack 200 in Mystic were competing in their annual Pinewood Derby on Saturday at the Groton City Municipal Building.
A total of 67 cars were entered in the derby this year, with 33 of those from Cub Scouts, 19 from Girl Scouts and another 15 in an open division for parents and siblings.
Every car is constructed using a standard kit that includes a block of wood, four axle nails and four wheels. The cars can weigh no more than 5ounces.
Races were divided further by scout rank, with trophies awarded in a wide variety of categories.
