    Williams club hosts FIMRC presentations

Representatives from the Foundation for International Medical Relief of Children went to the Williams School on Jan. 16 to speak with students on integrating service, health and stewardship into their classes. The organization helps families in the developing world through self-sustaining health programs.

Sessions at the school included a program on poverty that tied in with the sophomore English classes’ reading of “The Glass Castle” by Jeanette Walls, a discussion on the ethics of photography as it applies to travel and volunteerism, and a presentation on FIMRC’s Las Alajuelitas project in Costa Rica.

Williams is one of a handful of high schools nationally that has a FIMRC chapter, which was founded in 2011 after 2013 graduate Juli Brown returned from a semester volunteering in Peru. This year, chapter officers Chloe Folts, Mimi Doherty, Ruchi Ladd and Helena Dombkowski have organized a winter coat drive, a school supply drive and a toy drive to benefit local children in need, and two additional FIMRC projects are planned for the rest of the school year.
