New London — For the second year in a row, Lawrence + Memorial Hospital is partnering with the Hartford Marathon Foundation to present Spring Stride, a running and walking event, on May 2.

The event will include a 10K road race, a 5K fun run (and walk) and a children’s run, all starting and finishing at the hospital, 365 Montauk Ave.

The annual event returned last year after a seven-year hiatus and is expected to draw hundreds of runners and walkers of all ages. Hospital President and CEO Patrick Green is asking people to “save the date” and join what he called “a rite of spring that celebrates the importance of family, health and exercise in our community.”

“We are thrilled to partner with Lawrence + Memorial to bring back for a second year an event that is reestablishing itself as a regional staple in the running community," added Beth Shluger, the foundation's CEO and founder. 

L+M staff will be on hand throughout the event, and a number of health offerings, including blood pressure screenings, are being planned. Food and beverages also will be available.

The race start time is 8:30 a.m. for the 5K/10K and approximately 10 a.m. for the kids’ quarter-mile and half-mile races.
