Jewett City utility to provide loan to Griswold Elementary School for LED lights
Griswold — The Jewett City Department of Public Utilities will provide a $199,534 low-interest loan to the Griswold school system to install energy-efficient LED lighting in the elementary school.
The project is expected to save the school system $37,000 in utility costs per year, said Kenneth Sullivan, general manager of Jewett City Department of Public Utilities.
Jewett City DPU received approval last week from the Connecticut Municipal Electric Energy Cooperative of its request to use its reserve funds held by the cooperative to provide the loan to the school system. The Jewett City utility is one of six municipally owned utilities that own the cooperative.
“It is Jewett City Department of Public Utilities pleasure to be able to provide this loan to the Griswold Board of Education for their energy efficiency measures,” Sullivan, also a CMEEC board member, said in a news release announcing the loan.
