Library Notes: Storybook Trail offers family fun

The East Lyme Public Library has installed its new and improved Storybook Trail at Bridebrook Park in Niantic. Families will be able to walk the trail and read the book “I’m Mighty” by Kate and Jim McMullan on stations set up on the trail. “I’m Mighty” is the story of a strong, likeable tugboat who runs a busy harbor with good-humored authority.

The book features bright, comical illustrations with expressive dialog. “I’m Mighty” is part of the McMullans’ series of beloved children’s books about vehicles. They have received many awards including a New York Times Best Illustrated Book and a Boston Globe-Horn Book Award Honor Book.

“I’m Mighty” was published by Balzer & Bray, an imprint of HarperCollins Books for Children.

The authors are as excited as we are about this addition to the library and the reading to the public.

As Kate wrote, “Jim and I are so excited to have I’M MIGHTY! be a part of the Storybook Trail in East Lyme. We wanted to create a book about a tug boat because it’s a small boat compared to the enormous boats that it helps to push, pull and nudge into the harbor. We thought kids could relate, because no matter how small you are, you can always be a helper. TOOT TOOT!”

While we want all families to come enjoy the trail we are requesting that one family at a time reads at each station. Take your time to read the text and enjoy the colorful illustrations. Please take care to socially distance yourself from others while enjoying the beautiful park and inspiring picture book.
