Mystic — Crew members of the tall ship Kalmar Nyckel were clean the ship's bottom Wednesday at the Mystic Seaport Museum's Henry B. duPont Preservation Shipyard.

The ship, built in 1997, is a full-scale replica of a Swedish merchant ship that established the colony of New Sweden in the Delaware Valley in 1638. With summer sailing plans canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, the trip to Mystic is the only voyage undertaken in 2020. A crew of 28 was recruited to quarantine for two weeks prior to the voyage and is now providing the labor to clean, scrape, caulk and paint the hull in preparation for Coast Guard inspection.

The ship is scheduled to depart Mystic sometime around Sept. 21.
