Groton — The Groton Democratic Town Committee is inviting people to join and welcoming new members, according to a news release. 

The committee's next regular monthly meeting will be the night of Wednesday, Sept. 23, and will be held virtually via Zoom. Anyone who would like to call in to the meeting should contact Chair Conrad Heede to receive the link.

Groton Democrats also said in the news release that they will host a meet and greet from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, at their 2020 headquarters, 88 Plaza Court, next to the Groton Post Office. The event will be outdoors, weather permitting, and masks will be required, and appropriate distancing encouraged. Light refreshments will be available. The public is invited to meet like-minded neighbors and Democratic candidates: Bob Statchen for state Senate, Chris Conley and Joe de la Cruz for the state House of Representatives and Beth Ladwig Leamon for probate judge.

"It is no exaggeration that this is the most important American election in history, but it isn't just the Presidency that matters," the release states. "All politics is local and the Groton Democratic Town Committee is actively working to elect a slate of Democratic candidates that have integrity, commitment and proper credentials to hold the offices they are seeking, unlike so many we see across the aisle from the President on down."

The DTC said lawn signs, buttons and bumper stickers for Biden-Harris are available, along with lawn signs for all the other candidates, including Rep. Joe Courtney, D-2nd District. Information about voter registration and absentee ballot voting also is available, along with necessary forms.

Volunteers are needed for activities including driving voters to the polls, sending postcards and mailings and phone calling. Anyone in town available to help on Election Day, Nov. 3, at the polls or counting absentee ballots is encouraged to call the Groton registrar of voters, (860) 441-6650.

The headquarters is open when volunteers are available to staff it. Regular hours include 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday; 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday; 10 a.m. to noon Thursday and Friday; and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
