New London elementary school reports case of COVID-19

New London — The city school district reported another case of COVID-19 on Wednesday, a district employee at Nathan Hale Arts Magnet School whose illness has forced closure of one class at the school.

The students in the one classroom will be shifted into full distance learning for two weeks as a precautionary measure, Superintendent Cynthia Ritchie said in a notice to the elementary school families.

The district, in consultation with Ledge Light Health District, has decided that the rest of the school would resume as normal on Thursday.

The district employee who tested positive is in quarantine. Anyone who has had close contact with the employee will be contacted as part of the contact tracing procedures and asked to quarantine.

It is the first positive case at Nathan Hale reported by the district, which previously has reported cases at the high school and Harbor Elementary School. Harbor shifted to all virtual learning for two weeks following two reported COVID-19 cases last week.
