Groton Public Schools reports new COVID-19 cases

Groton — Superintendent Michael Graner said the school district learned Wednesday that a member of Groton Middle School and a member of Catherine Kolanski School tested positive for COVID-19.

Graner said in a notification that the data show they were not infected while in the school buildings.

“Fortunately, the individuals have not been in school for over a week, and the test data shows that the individuals were not in the buildings at any time while infected; therefore, no contact tracing will occur at the schools,” he wrote. “The affected individuals have been instructed to isolate at home following public health guidelines. Ledge Light Health District will contact only those individuals who had recent close personal contact with these persons.”

He said the school district is monitoring the situation with the health district.

The school district had announced on Oct. 4 that the middle school was shifting to full remote learning through Oct. 16, after the learning on Oct. 4 that a member of the middle school community tested positive.
