Free turkey distribution rescheduled in Norwich

Norwich — After a planned distribution of frozen turkeys was canceled Friday, city officials reached an agreement with the Connecticut Food Bank for two alternative distributions of 450 turkeys each on Nov. 12 and 20 at the Rose City Senior Center, 8 Mahan Drive, Norwich.

Turkeys are expected to be dropped off between 10:30 and 11 a.m. on Thursday, and the drive-thru distribution will begin at 11:30 a.m. Anyone, not just city residents, is welcome and the turkeys will be placed in recipients’ vehicles on a first-come, first-served basis. On Friday, Nov. 20, the 450 turkeys are expected to arrive between 9 and 9:30 a.m., and distribution will begin at 10 a.m.

Mayor Peter Nystrom said the distributions are expected to go quickly, and he has asked Norwich police to assist with traffic control on Mahan Drive. The senior center is across the street from Norwich Regional Technical High School and Kelly STEAM Magnet Middle School.
