East Lyme reports three new COVID-19 cases in schools

East Lyme — Superintendent Jeffrey Newton notified East Lyme Public Schools staff, parents and guardians that he was informed Tuesday that three members of the district community — two at East Lyme High School and one at Lillie B. Haynes School — tested positive for COVID-19.

This will not impact school operations, as the high school has already shifted to remote learning until Nov. 30 and the elementary school will remain open to students.

Newton said in his letter that the infected individuals were last at the high school on Nov. 11, and the other infected individual was last at Lillie B. Haynes on Nov. 4. He didn't specify whether those are students or staff members.

"Contact tracing has been completed regarding these cases," Newton wrote. "Anyone who is considered a 'close contact' with the infected individuals will be contacted by the school or local health officials and will be provided with instructions on the appropriate steps to take."
