Two new COVID-19 cases reported in East Lyme High School community

East Lyme — On Wednesday, after announcing on Monday that the town high school would shift to remote learning until Nov. 30 due to coronavirus cases, East Lyme Public Schools learned of two new cases of COVID-19 among the high school community.

“The affected persons have been instructed to remain home in self-isolation and have been provided with additional instructions to follow prior to returning to their school building,” Superintendent Jeffrey Newton wrote to parents, guardians and staff on Wednesday. “The most recent day attended by the East Lyme High School infected individuals was on Friday, November 6, 2020 and Tuesday, November 10, 2020.”

Newton added that contact tracing has been completed for these two new cases, and people considered “close contacts” with those infected will be contacted by local health officials or the school.

“Given the continued daily positive cases coming forth at the high school level, many pending cases, and a staffing shortage issue due to quarantine requirements, East Lyme High School will be moving to temporary remote learning effective immediately,” Newton said in a statement to the school community earlier this week.
