    Ledyard completes reassessment process

Ledyard — In letters to property owners this past week, the town announced it has completed the revaluation process with consultant Vision Government Services. The new assessments were included in each letter as well as at vgsi.com.

Assessor Adrianna Hedwall said the state requires a revaluation of all real property in town every five years to ensure consistency throughout the community for tax purposes, with the last revaluation in Ledyard effective Oct. 1, 2015. Staff in her office will be valuing motor vehicles and personal property over the next two months, with the grand list to be finalized by Jan. 31.

She said the new values are based on a statistical analysis of property sales over the last year, with any changes derived directly from the market. Inspections for the properties that required it were conducted during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic with social distancing and personal protective equipment, and interior inspections were conducted via email and pictures rather than in person.

Hedwall noted that property value increases are not indicative of a proportional increase in taxes, as next year's mill rate will be determined based on the completed grand list and the 2021-22 budget, which typically is approved in May.

Property owners seeking a review of their new assessment can schedule a telephone interview with Vision Government Services by calling 1 (888) 844-4300 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday or by visiting vgsi.com/schedules and clicking on "Ledyard, CT Hearings" by Dec. 1. Results of the phone hearings will be mailed to property owners.

Property owners who are unable to attend any of the hearing dates may send a letter to Vision Government Services through the Tax Assessor's Office, 741 Colonel Ledyard Highway, Ledyard, CT 06339 by Dec. 6.
