Kindness in Real Life: Local health organizations receive foundation grants

The Jewett City Savings Bank Foundation has awarded $8,500 in grants to five area health services organizations.

United Community and Family Services received $5,000 to support its Griswold health center capital campaign. Griswold PRIDE received $500 to purchase medication storage and safe disposal bags for its abuse prevention program.

A total of three $1,000 grants went to The Connecticut Cancer Foundation in Old Saybrook for its Nourish Hope and Knock Out Hunger Program, Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam for its annual appeal, and United Services of Dayville to support additional staff hours in its youth service bureau.

The foundation awarded $68,000 in 54 grants in 2020 and nearly $1 million since its start in 2003.

“As 2020 has taught us, the importance of health can never be underestimated,” Kevin Merchant, president and CEO of Jewett City Savings Bank, said in a release. “The Jewett City Savings Bank Foundation is proud to support the programs and organizations that work to promote health for all members of our communities.”
