In the Times: A new way to read The Times

Now, through the miracle of modern technology, Times readers can view not only their own local weekly paper in digital form, but also any other Times paper, from Norwich to Lyme to Stonington.

We now have nine Times-branded newspapers. To view any of them, visit theday.com and look for the tab marked Services, under which you will find “Times Weeklies.” Each paper is listed individually, and all you have to do is click on the edition and then scroll through the pages by clicking on an arrow to the right of the page.

This is a beautiful thing for so many reasons. First, people who grew up in one town but now live in another within our circulation area may now keep up with what’s going on in their native town or city.

Second, people who submit columns, poems, briefs and other items to the Times now may easily scan through the papers to see where their pieces ended up; we are not able to get everything into all our papers since we are trying to focus on items of most interest in each town.

At times, our papers in certain towns are extremely tight, and we can get in only the essentials. At the same times, other towns (especially Lyme) tend to have tons of space, so you will find all of our weekly columns in those editions, while they may be omitted elsewhere.

So if you are missing certain columns you enjoy, such as Nature Notes, Tossing Lines, Lee’s Kitchen or What The..., you can go to theday.com and type in the column name in quotes, such as “History Matters,” or you can go to the digital Times papers and take a look at what ran in other papers.

The papers available are: Lyme Times (covering Lyme, Old Lyme, East Lyme and Salem), Waterford Times, New London Times, Montville Times, Groton Times, Mystic Times, Thames River Times (Ledyard and Preston), Stonington Times (Stonington and North Stonington), and Norwich Times (Norwich, Sprague, Bozrah, Lisbon, Griswold, Voluntown and Franklin).

What’s more, some of our columns, such as “Notably Norwich” by Bill Stanley, have a strong local slant, but if you like Bill’s writing (as we all do), you now can search The Norwich Times digital edition to see his semi-weekly offering.

So please check out our new digital edition. They post on the Wednesday before our Thursday publication date, and come down a week later, and are not archived, so consider making it a weekly visit.
