In the Times: Big changes are afoot; are you ready to contribute?

One of the interesting things about reading the Times, I hope, is that you get a chance to hear about people who ordinarily are overlooked in the fast-paced world of daily newspapers.

We have a little more time to look at the world as a connected place when we are covering communities as a weekly paper. The fast-paced world of daily journalism leaves little time for reflection.

But today is a time to reflect. As you read this, we have said goodbye to the Times’ longtime assistant editor Amanda Hutchinson, who is moving on in her career. She has done a great job, and we wish her well.

But who can replace Amanda? It will be hard; thanks to her dedication the Times has remained a vibrant publication with terrific local columnists and interesting content about the people, places and history around you.

We are currently looking to find someone with a similar mindset who will be responsive and helpful in getting all your calendar items and briefs into the paper (and somehow keeping track of it all for nine different Times editions).

Meanwhile, bear with us. We put out nine free publications with just two people, and now we are down to one full-timer, plus a bit of part-time help from Day editor Scott Ritter and secretary Lori Barstow, among others.

The best thing you can do? Contribute! We love to hear from you, and we are counting on you more and more to keep us up to date on happenings in your town.

If you have some expertise or interest in local history or you know of a person in the community who doesn’t get the credit he or she deserves, write up a story to tell us about it. Pictures are great, too.

This is what I call the People’s Paper. It’s all about you and your town.

Also, if you enjoy a particular columnist or a certain regular feature, let us know. We depend on your feedback to know what is working and what is not.

Today, we debut a new column, titled Endurance, by a familiar name, Pam Dolan, who used to pen a column years ago called Life As Mama. Life has changed for Pam, and we look forward to hearing about her new adventures!

In the spring, I’d love to do some Zoom focus groups with people in our towns to hear more direct feedback and inspire people to share their passions and interests in the Times. So look for a notice in the coming weeks once our new editor is onboard.

I can’t wait to introduce you!
