Third annual Art in Waterford event coming in August

The Waterford Historical Society’s third annual “Art In Waterford: Past+Present+Future” event will take place in its historic buildings and on Jordan Green, 49 Rope Ferry Road, Waterford, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 14, and Sunday, Aug. 15.

The event will feature a renowned ship carver and an expert furniture maker; area artists’ shoreline-themed paintings and hand-forged items for sale; and student artwork on display.

This family-oriented event will feature a display of ship carvings and fine furnishings by craftsmen of the past. Local artists’ paintings in a juried art show will be for sale. Works by “future” artists —- area middle school and high school students —- will be displayed in the 1740 Jordan Schoolhouse. There will be live music to hear, en plein air painters to observe, tours of the historic buildings, blacksmiths working at their forge, food trucks and picnic tables, and vintage cars to admire.

The Waterford Public Library will sponsor colonial arts and crafts activities for children.

While there is no cost for admission, visitors are encouraged upon arrival at Jordan Green to go to the main tent to purchase a program with biographies and background on all the artists. Donations also will be accepted to support programs and building restorations.

At the main tent, there will also be for sale hand-forged items by the blacksmiths, note cards and art supplies.
