Groton — The U.S. Navy Los Angeles-class attack submarine USS San Juan (SSN 751) returned to the Naval Submarine Base on Tuesday following a nearly 8-month deployment.
San Juan has a crew of about 139 and is commanded by Cmdr. Douglas Sattler.
Two crew members returned to newborn babies: Chief Petty Officer David Begley met 2-month-old Benjamin for the first time, while Petty Officer 1st Class Scott Carter met his 2-week-old son, Colin, for the first time on the pier.
The sub, commissioned in 1988, is the second U.S. warship named for the capital of Puerto Rico.
