    United Way of Southeastern Connecticut honors community partners

    The United Way of Southeastern Connecticut honored community partners at a celebration held at Mohegan Sun earlier this month, and announced that the community donated $4,081,120 during the agency's 2020-21 campaign.

    Electric Boat and the EB Employees' Community Services Association received the Live United Award of Excellence, the top honor, for making financial contributions, running food and toy drives, volunteering at local nonprofits, and supporting the Gemma E. Moran United Way/Labor Food Center.

    Erin Concannon from Dime Bank was named Campaign Coordinator of the Year, Tim Subashi was named Live United Volunteer of the Year, the City of Norwich won the Community Collaboration award, and Mohegan Sun won an award for Outstanding Community Support and Generosity.

    William Louis, United Way board chair and president of MDA-UAW Local 571, announced that the volunteer campaign co-chairs for this year's United Way Campaign will be Chick Corrado from Applied Physical Sciences Corporation and Chris LaRose from Norwich Public Utilities.

    Louis and his union also won the Live United for Inspiration Award, and Applied Physical Sciences Corporation won the award for Loyal Company of the Year.

    The Town of Groton was named municipality of the year, and Groton Public Schools won an award for school engagement. Other awards went to Connecticut College, Safe Futures, CT Municipal Electric Energy Cooperative, Charter Oak Federal Credit Union, Chef Tomm of New London Public Schools, and Shoreline Periodontics.
