Norwich Memories: Franklin and Main streets

Circa 1950 in Franklin Square: The Norwich Fire Department checks on the Young’s Block building, at the corner of Franklin Street and Main Street.(Ken Keeley Collection)

Circa 1950 in Franklin Square, the Norwich Fire Department checks on the Young’s Block building, at the corner of Franklin and Main streets. The Young’s Block building was razed in 1949, and the new F.W. Woolworth’s ‘Five & Dime’ building was constructed in its spot. The tall building was the National Hotel, followed by the Beit Bros. art deco building that still stands today.

Ken Keeley has published 12 pictorial books of Norwich history. To purchase any of his books he can be reached via e-mail: kenekjr000@comcast.net or FaceBook under Ken Keeley.
