Circa 1950 in Franklin Square, the Norwich Fire Department checks on the Young’s Block building, at the corner of Franklin and Main streets. The Young’s Block building was razed in 1949, and the new F.W. Woolworth’s ‘Five & Dime’ building was constructed in its spot. The tall building was the National Hotel, followed by the Beit Bros. art deco building that still stands today.
