Your Turn: Lyme-Old Lyme Lions Club holds prospective member social

The Lyme-Old Lyme Lions Club, in existence for more than 40 years, serves the Old Lyme community, the state, the nation and the world through its efforts to help those with challenges to their eyesight.

We are a 30-member group of men and women with plenty of energy and imagination! We want to grow! We welcome friends and neighbors who would like to serve, which is our motto.

Becoming a local Lion is a way to give back to your community, build friendships and work for the common good here and in the world.

Please join us to learn about Lions Club activities and membership in our organization at our kickoff event at the Old Lyme Inn from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m on Wednesday, Sept. 29, out on the patio. There will be a short presentation by Lion Keith LeMire. Hearty appetizers will be served, and as our guest you will receive a complimentary beverage on us! For more information, or if you have questions, please contact Bev Lewis at (860) 460-5908.

We offer monthly programs of high interest for our members and visitors. Our biggest event is the annual car show. We also hold a yearly pancake breakfast on Super Bowl Sunday at Lyme-Old Lyme High School.

Proceeds from the events are used to fund our scholarships and charities supported by the Lions Club.

Some of the ways “We Serve” — We screen preschoolers for eye diseases, raise funds for eye research and local low vision centers, award scholarships to local students, work in our local soup kitchen, help those in need to get eye glasses and eye exams, and donate to worthy local charities.

Karen Geisler is publicity chair for the Lyme-Old Lyme Lions Club.
